THE COUNTY OF CUMBRIA (WEST WALLS AND
ANNETWELL STREET, CARLISLE) [TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2020
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that because of the likelihood of danger to the public, to protect the structure of the retaining wall of West Walls from collapse and enable associated repair works to be carried out ("the Works"), the County Council of Cumbria intends to make an Order the effect of which is to;
1. Prohibit any vehicle exceeding 7.5 tonnes maximum gross weight from proceeding along the entire length of West Walls, Carlisle from its junction with Victoria Viaduct to its junction with Abbey Street.

Alternative routes for vehicles exceeding 7.5 tonnes maximum gross weight;
Northbound: via Victoria Viaduct, Nelson Bridge, Charlotte Street, Junction Street, Shaddongate, Castle Way, West Tower Street, Market Street, Fisher Street, Finkle Street, Castle Street, Paternoster Row and Abbey Street Southbound: via Annetwell Street, Castle Street, St Marys Gate, Fisher Street, Market Street, West Tower Street, Castle Way, Shaddongate, Junction Street, Charlotte Street, Nelson Bridge, Victoria Viaduct
2. Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding other than in a north westerly direction along the entire length of West Walls, Carlisle from its junction with Victoria Viaduct to its junction with Abbey Street.

Alternative route for south east bound vehicles: Via Castle Street, St Marys Gate, Fisher Street, Market Street, West Tower Street, Castle Way, Shaddongate, Junction Street, Charlotte Street, Nelson Bridge, Victoria Viaduct
3. Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding other than in a north easterly direction along that section of Annetwell Street, Carlisle from its junction with Abbey Street to its junction with Castle Street.

Alternative route for south west bound vehicles: Via Castle Street, Paternoster Row, and Abbey Street.
4. Prohibit any vehicle to wait at any time, on any day or to load and unload at any time, on any day (including blue badge holders) along that section of West Walls, Carlisle (north west side) from a point approx. 8m north west of its junction with Victoria Viaduct, extending in a north westerly direction for approx 77m. A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

Nothing in the Order to which this notice relates shall:
(i) Apply to emergency service vehicles, or vehicles being used by
statutory undertakers in the performance of their duties; and
(ii)Apply to anything done with the permission or at the
direction of a police constable in uniform; and
(iii)Have the effect of preventing at any time access for
pedestrians to any premises situated on or adjacent to the road,
or to any other premises accessible for pedestrians from, and
only from the road; and
