We were initially attracted to the house by its position, tucked away with stunning grounds.

Inside we loved the opulent 1830s grandeur of the large rooms, with period features galore such as high ceilings, wooden carved shutters and original open fireplaces.

These recollections are from the owners of the Old Rectory, a luxury period home which blends classic character features with high-quality contemporary fixtures.

It boasts two spacious reception rooms, a contemporary living kitchen with mezzanine, utility and cellar. Upstairs two en-suite bedrooms are complemented by a third double bedroom and a four-piece family bathroom.

“We have made many additions which enhance the luxury feel of the property such as a family dining kitchen with hand-carved oak units,” the owners said.

“It is a wonderful hub of the house and is flooded with light. Two en-suite bathrooms - one with views to Scotland - as well as the large bathroom helped us over the years when we had our daughters living with us!”

The house is on the edge of the rural village of Lamplugh close to the national park boundary and seven miles from Cockermouth.

“We adored the idyllic location with its easy access on foot to Loweswater and Cora Moss both on foot,” added the owners.

“However, we needn’t really travel far as within the large garden there is such variety.

“The wooden boardwalk not only provides stunning views over nearby fields, but is the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine while watching the sun set over the Solway Coast.

“The large pine tree forest area is the perfect habitat for wildlife and we always have regular visits from red squirrels, a large variety of birds including the rarely spotted nuthatch and even the odd deer.

“The lawn area has been well used over the years for games especially in the summer where we have had endless fun with a ‘slip and slide’ into a large paddling pool!

“Next to the lawn is the perfect entertaining area with an outdoor kitchen and seating area. We enjoy sitting there toasting marshmallows on the open fire.

“ Now it is just the two of us and we think it’s best that we hand over the Old Rector to the next family for them to start making wonderful memories like the ones we will treasure forever.”
