Year 11 students from across West Cumbria are celebrating after picking up prizes at the School Links awards ceremony.

Pupils studying vocational qualifications from Keswick School, Workington Academy, St Joseph’s in Workington, Cockermouth School, Solway Community Technology College in Silloth and Maryport's Netherhall School each received a certificate, which was presented to them by Lakes College, Lillyhall.

Awards were also given for attendance and special achievement. 

The pupils have been studying to improve their future employment opportunities in hair and beauty, catering, engineering, motor vehicle repair and construction since September 2014. 

Chris Nattress, Lakes College principal, said: "The school links is a great programme for students looking to gain some vocational skills while studying at school. 

"This year’s year 11 students had a fantastic attendance record and have all enjoyed their time at the college. 

"Thirty-two of the 42 students are planning to return to college in September to study a range of courses both full time and apprenticeship routes."

The attendance award was given to pupils who achieved 100 per cent attendance between September 2014 and May 2016.

They were Megan Cowper, Honor Sellars, Abby Palmer, Kati Murray, Elliot Jones, Luke Denwood, William De Graff, Ciaran Hewer, Kaidie Thomas and Thomas Johnson, Dean Cardwell, Kayley Cooper and Uwem Akpan.

Certificates of achievement were awarded to Megan Cowper, Honor Sellars, Tom Nixon, Kaidie Thomas, William De Graff, Ross Blacklock, Jake Mattinson-Smith, Kiera Williams, Race Mason and Uwem Akpan.

Workington Academy was given the school award.
