A woman who grew up in Workington has published her first book.

Anne Goodwin, who attended St Joseph's School until 1976, started work on Sugar and Snails after getting together with old school friends.

Anne, 57, who now lives in Newcastle, said: "I began writing my novel on returning home from completing the Coast to Coast walk, which was preceded by a night out with friends to mark our collective 50th birthday year.

"For that reason the novel is dedicated to the coast-to-coasters and old school friends."

Anne is a former clinical psychologist and enlisted a psychology lecturer as the leading character in her book.

Anne, who grew up on Elterwater Avenue, said: "I’ve been writing since I could hold a pencil but seriously for about 12 years. I’ve published just over 60 short stories and Sugar and Snails is my first novel, which took seven years from inception to publication."

Anne's parents Tom and Marie Goodwin live in Cockermouth and she has siblings locally.

Friends from school joined Anne for the book launch.
