GLOBAL superstar Sir Cliff Richard is set to perform in south Cumbria.

The UK’s most successful hitmaker will be heading to Cartmel Races to perform live at an open-air concert on Friday June 28.

Early bird tickets are set to go on sale at 10am on Sunday.

Sir Cliff's performance will follow the popularity of previous live concerts by acts including Boyzone, Tom Jones and Simply Red.

The gig will be the big finale of the Cartmel's June race meet.

Steve Cooper, the managing director of Cartmel Racecourse, said “The outdoor concerts are an established highlight of our summer racing calendar and it is our absolute pleasure to announce that Cliff Richard will be performing here at our June meeting, after the racing.

“We are thrilled that as a world-renowned artist, Cliff would select Cartmel as one of only three outdoor tour venues to play in 2019. As someone who always entertains the crowds with great energy and passion, we are already looking forward to what is set to be a day to remember."

2018 marks the 60th anniversary of the release of Cliff's first single, Move It! and the start of an extraordinary life in show-business.

Celebrating this significant milestone, Warner Music is releasing a new album of completely original songs on November 23.

The album Rise Up is Cliff's 104th official UK release, although it is the first album for 14 years that features completely new material rather than Cliff's unique interpretation of classic songs.

In 60 years, Cliff Richard has recorded almost 1,300 song titles, composed 100 songs, achieved 14 number one singles and seven number one albums.

Able to change with the times and tastes and remaining hugely popular with fans, Sir Cliff has nonetheless stayed faithful to his rock and roll roots throughout.

Continuing to draw huge crowds to his concerts, Sir Cliff regularly reaches the top 10 with his albums; an achievement critics in 1958 thought would never happen.

Peter Taylor, director of promoters Cuffe and Taylor, said: “Cliff Richard is without a doubt a legend of the music industry.

"We have worked with Cliff on numerous shows and tours and are delighted to be bringing him to Cartmel Racecourse for the first time.

"I have no doubt that the crowds at Cartmel will have a brilliant time hearing him perform the hits that made him a household name.”

Limited numbers of Early Bird Tickets (plus a restricted number of seated tickets) for the event will be released online at 10am on Sunday.

Adult Early Bird tickets are priced at £45 (a saving of £15 on the on-the-day ticket price).

All admission tickets for this date are inclusive of both the racing and the evening concert.

Tickets will also be available online for teens which are priced at £25 (advanced price) and for under 13’s who go free and must be secured in advance.
