Whitehaven and District ABC boxers put on another dominant show at Whitehaven Golf Club earlier this month, winning two of the three bouts that they fought in.
It was a close and fraught night of fights with close decisions, standing stoppages, and back and forth competition.
A schoolboy contest saw Zak Adams of Wigan pick up a decision and Ricardo Jenkins of Leigh ABC also managed a win. Alex MacDonald took a unanimous decision over Leigh’s Harvey Ashcroft.
Stubby’s ABC vs Redcar was far closer as Jed Clegg and Kevin Harvey went to a split decision, with Oldham’s Clegg getting the nod. Whitehaven’s Harvey Johnston advanced to 2-0 with a unanimous decision win over Glasgow-based boxer,William Williamson.
Johnston is an exciting local boxing prospect who stopped his first opponent in round one.
In the seventh contest of the night, Love ABC’s Will Henson took a unanimous decision over David Lukjanvos from Galashiels. Forgewood took a unanimous points decision when Matthew Middleton clashed with Siddiq Horia Khail. Longsight returned, though, when O’Neil Forest edged Andrew Carr.
Familiar face Paul Savage of the Haven gym lost a close decision to Kriss Higham, also of Stubby’s in Greater Manchester. The Border City gym from Carlisle were victorious with Mickey Davidson stopping Sean Probert.
Whitehaven had better luck with the scorecards later on as Billie Donaldson, a promising talent, out-struck Scottish fighter Stacey Carr. Alfie Poole, another prospect with a bright future, also stopped his opponent; Mehram Vasi from Longsight ABC.
