People are being given the chance to find out if they have valuable treasures in their attics at events across Cumbria next week.

Auctioneers Lockdales will hold specialist valuation days in Dalton-in-Furness, Ulverston, Cockermouth, Maryport and Dalston.

The firm has previously uncovered a gold coin from the Dark Ages which later sold for more than £19,000.

Its owner had been unaware of its value before showing it to Lockdales.

At next week's events, the firm's experts will value coins, stamps, banknotes, clocks, watches, silver, gold, documents, books & maps (pre-1900), medals and militaria including swords, bayonets and de-activated/antique weapons, cigarette cards, postcards, pre-1960 sports programmes and tickets and scientific instruments.

People attending will have the option, if they wish, to consign their goods to be sold in a future public auction, or they may request a cash purchase offer from Lockdales itself.

Valuations at the event will be provided free of charge and without any obligation to sell.

The events will take place on:

  • November 20, 10am-2pm, at The Valley View Dalton (formerly Clarence House Hotel), Skelgate, Dalton in Furness
  • November 20, 6pm-8pm, at Bardsea Malt Kiln Village Hall, Well Lane, Main Street, Bardsea, Ulverston
