An award winning bespoke millinery and fascinator shop is closing down in Workington.

Cherry Tree Fashions, owned by Norah Alderson, is closing down and selling off stock due to a combination of personal reasons and Government rules for small businesses.

The award winning shop, which was a CN Group Business awards winner in 2014, sells hats, wedding accessories, wedding supplies, fascinators and handbags, and has become so busy that owner, Norah Alderson has taken the decision to close in order to "get some life back."

Ms Alderson said: "The hardest part was telling the staff as they are really dedicated and love the job." She will try and help the two staff get jobs within the industry as they are now experienced in all aspects of the business.

Cherry Tree Fashions will continue to trade online and by Facebook to fulfill existing orders.

Having established in 2011, the decision was taken in September to wind the shop down, much to the disappointment of its many customers.

A contributory factor in closing is the lack of support given to proprietors in and around the Wilson Street area.

Ms Alderson said: "So much effort has to be put in at this end of town. We don't get supported at all by the town. Unless you're in the town centre no one includes you. We've had to fight hammer and tongs to get Christmas lights."

The owner feels passionately about the business and has enjoyed using her craft skills to produce creative unique pieces, but said that Government rules, which apply to small traders as well as large ones, detracts from why she started the business.

The website and Facebook presence will continue beyond the shop closure, which is likely to be the end of the year, or possibly into January if there is still stock available.
