ALAUNA Aura has becn chosen as the name of an art installation on the Maryport harbour.
The town council asked the public for suggestions and received dozens of names from the sublime to the ridiculous.
Many were contenders including Sphere of the Solway, Alauna's Light, Sphere of History, Ellen's Eye and Eye of the Solway.
Several referred to Ellen and Ellenfoot, for the Ellen River and the post-Roman, pre-Maryport name of the town.
Others used Alauna, the Roman name of the area.
Councillors eventually decided on Alauna Aura as the most fitting name for the orb.
The stainless steel sculpture is actually elipse shaped. It has cut-outs depicting the town's heritage from Roman times, ship building - including the town's connections to the Titanic, mining, the railway and fishing. Interesting enough during the day, the orb lights up at night, periodically changing colours.
Costing £9,000, it was paid for by a grant from Allerdale council and was created by a North East company Fire Pit Design.
