THERE were smiles all round at Kendal's Vicarage Park After School Club after it was rated 'outstanding' by Ofsted inspectors.

The club received generous praise from the inspectors for the leadership, quality of teaching and their work on the personal development of the children attending.

"Everyone here is very excited that the inspectors rate the club as outstanding in all areas," said manager Karen Akers.

"We are extremely pleased with the inspector's comments and very proud."

The club, which is based at Vicarage Park Primary School in the town, was inspected last month.

And it resulted in a glowing report which began by describing leadership as "inspirational" and added that the team's commitment and enthusiasm supported the children's needs exceptionally well.

'"Children thrive in this high-quality, safe and secure after school club," the report says.

"They have a tremendously enthusiastic, confident and have a clear sense of belonging."

The inspectors also mention inventive projects such as the creation of displays about inspirational women and well know artists, and the provision of energetic outdoor games using torches and flashing objects.

"Children enjoy being at the club and are constantly engaged in innovative activities," says the report.

The results are particularly outstanding as they illustrate the tremendous improvements since the previous inspection in 2016 when the inspectors noted that the quality and standards 'required improvement.'

Vicarage Park After School Club runs from 3.15pm to 6pm from Monday to Friday during term time and employs five qualified members of staff.
