A GROUP of over-60s were treated to a free Christmas afternoon tea party.

The Solway Hall in Whitehaven hosted the free event which was attended by many people who live on their own as well as those in a nursing home.

The event went ahead thanks to volunteers Anne Kelly and Bernie Hugo who run the venue all year round; volunteers Lee Adams and Lesley Thompson and Geoff and Val Burns who dressed as Father Christmas and Mary Christmas.

Anne Kelly said: "We would like to thank everyone involved who helped to make it special for a lot of people in our community, we hope they all enjoyed it. Our venue is open to the whole community and the Christmas Afternoon Tea was just another way of us giving back to the people of Whitehaven and surrounding areas." Entertainment came from St Patricks School Choir, Cathy Marcangelo, Martin Kelly, John Thompson, Alan Kewley, Steve Byrne, Dawn Oliver, Kath Smith, Malcolm Dowler, Louisa Morton and Kayleigh Donald and Julieanne Kelly.
