A charity calendar which saw a group of north Cumbrian slimmers strip off to raise awareness of breast cancer is now on sale.

Denise Broughton, of Wigton, came up with the ‘Breast Friends’ calendar after being diagnosed with cancer just over a year ago.

It resulted in Calendar Girls-inspired naked photo shoot, starring Denise and her friends.

Having now received copies of the calendars, the Slimming World team leader said she is “absolutely delighted” with the end result.

“I’m thrilled with it. It couldn’t be better,” she said.

“It was such good fun and I just hope people buy it now.

“The money raised will go to the Reiver House chemotherapy unit and the Eden Breast Screening Unit, both at the Cumberland Infirmary.”

Denise, 52, was diagnosed with breast cancer following a routine mammogram after turning 50.

She underwent surgery and started treatment soon after.

Being well known through her Slimming World work, she decided to share her journey on Facebook.

The response was so positive that it inspired the calendar idea.

The shoot took place at Wigton Bowling Club, with photographer Louise Porter taking the pictures.

She used strategically-placed props, including cakes, umbrellas and balls of wool, to cover their modesty of the volunteer models.

They included Slimming World colleagues, friends and family from the Wigton area and even firefighters from the local station.

Each month has a different theme, and Denise hopes that as well as raising money, it will act as a year-round reminder of the need to attend routine mammograms and check breasts regularly.

The calendars cost £7.99 each and are available from Glad Rags, Harrison’s butchers, Baskets and bunches, Envy hair salon and Amy’s Beauty, all in Wigton, or direct from Denise via Facebook.
