The Maryport TSB branch opened its doors to Hospice at Home West Cumbria as part of local charities day.

It was supporting an initiative by the Government department for digital, culture, media and sport which enables local charities to highlight the work that they do and allows people to pledge their time to charities.

TSB supported the event nationally, on December 14 and invited their local charity partner in Cumbria, Hospice at Home West Cumbria, to come to the branch.

Susan Rae, bank manager at TSB Maryport, said: “We enjoyed having our local charity partner Hospice at Home West Cumbria spend the day with us at our branch. We lined up lots of activities to raise funds, including competitions and staff wearing their Christmas jumpers. Hospice at Home also sold goodies to the public. It was a great day and we raised over £200!

“Local charities play a vital role in supporting the daily lives of thousands of people across the UK, and they need our support. We were very excited to welcome customers and the general public into our branch to fundraise and raise awareness of this great charity.”

Annamarie Desmond-Storey, from Hospice at Home West Cumbria said: "We were delighted to be invited to take part in local charities day by TSB in Maryport. A team of our volunteers manned a stand throughout the day raising awareness of the work we do."

Donations and sales from the day raised £231.11 and the staff team at TSB also raised money by taking part in the charities Christmas jumper day appeal.

Ms Desmond-Storey went on to say: "As the only provider of adult Hospice Care in West Cumbria, all monies raised will go towards the care and support of local patients and their families.

"We would like to thank all the staff and customers of TSB, we can continue to care for others because of your support, we are so grateful for every donation.”

TSB has supported the local charities day since 2015, nationally partnering with almost 1,300 local causes. They have donated nearly £2.5 million and volunteered thousands of hours.

Throughout December TSB is also awarding over 150 local community fund grants of between £1,000 and £3,000 to help charities across the UK to pursue projects that are designed to help local people.
