MITCHELL'S Livestock Auction Mart will hold its annual turkey sale on Saturday, December 22.

Customers from all over the county are expected at the traditional sale which has been held in Cockermouth for more than 100 years.

A selection of dressed and rough plucked turkeys, also geese, chickens and other poultry will be for sale at the livestock centre. More than 330 entries are expected.

There will also be vegetable and Christmas decoration stalls. Greysouthen Young Farmers will be selling holly wreaths in aid of the Great North Air Ambulance.

Around 260 birds went under the hammer at last year's sale, including a whopping 34lb turkey. Some of the highest bids included a goose that went for £100.

The auction starts at 10.30am and is expected to go until noon.
