The Local Business Charity Awards is asking Cumbrian charities to nominate their local corporate partners for an awards ceremony taking place next June, where a charity can win a donation of £1,000.

The awards offer small charities the opportunity to thank the businesses that support their work, and are looking for local charities to sign up.

There are three award categories to enter, 'The Jelf Award', 'The Cumbrian Award', which award £1,000 each, and 'The Individual Award'.

'The Individual Award' will be given to someone from a partner business who goes the extra mile to help out the charity by giving up a lot of personal time to assist them. The winner will receive a weekend away worth £300.

The event was founded in Gloucestershire in 2014 and is now also held in North Yorkshire and Oxfordshire. It is supported by insurance broker company, Jelf, who have a large presence across Cumbria.

Louise Bruce, managing director of The Local Business Charity Awards, said: “I hope that the awards will open up people's eyes to the hundreds of small local charities right under their noses.

“we're always bombarded with information about national charities, and there's so many smaller ones that deserve attention, and the businesses that support them should get recognition.”

The awards are also running a Support a Local Charity campaign, which aims to match local businesses to an organisation they can contribute to. Louise says she got the inspiration for this from the phenomenon of online dating.

She said: “If two people who suit each-other romantically can be matched with the help of an online platform, why can't the same happen between local charities and businesses?”

Louise plans to expand the awards into every UK county, to ensure that local businesses do not go under-appreciated. The closing date for applications is April 15 2019, and the awards finals will take place on June 6.
