Allerdale Borough Council has issued details of its rubbish collections and office opening times over the Christmas and New Year period.

Bin/recycling collection times:

Rubbish and recycling collections will take place as normal on Christmas Eve. Collections will not take place on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, which means they will be two days later than usual during the remainder of the week.

Therefore collections will be as follows:

· Monday, December 24 will be carried out as normal

· Tuesday, December 25 will be carried out on Thursday, December 27

· Wednesday, December 26 will be carried out on Friday, December 28

· Thursday, December 27 will be carried out on Saturday, December 29

· Friday, December 28 will be carried out on Sunday, December 30

The following week, collections will take place as normal on New Year's Eve. There will be no collections on New Year's Day so all refuse and recycling usually collected on Tuesday or after will be picked up a day later than normal.

Therefore collections will be as follows:

· Monday, December 31 will be carried out as normal

· Tuesday, January 1 will be carried out on Wednesday, January 2

· Wednesday, January 2 will be carried out on Thursday, January 3

· Thursday, January 3 will be carried out on Friday, January 4

· Friday, January 4 will be carried out on Saturday, January 5

If you would like your real or artificial Christmas tree collected, please place it next to your general waste on your specified collection day. Alternatively, you can take them to your local household waste recycling centre.

Residents can visit www.allerdale.gov.uk/bincollections to check bin collection dates, report a missed collection, and check for any severe weather that could affect collections.

All household waste recycling centres are run by Cumbria County Council. Visit www.cumbria.gov.uk for details of opening hours during the seasonal period.

The council's offices and telephone lines will close at 4.30pm on Friday, December 21.

Allerdale House in Workington, the customer contact centres in Keswick, Maryport and Wigton and the phone lines will reopen at 9am on Wednesday, January 2.

The area office in Cockermouth, which is based in the library on Main Street, will reopen at 10am on the same day.

The council's website www.allerdale.gov.uk can be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

There is a secure online payment facility as well as pages to report any problems from dog fouling to noise pollution.

The multi-storey car park in Workington will be closed on Christmas Day. It will reopen at 7am on Boxing Day. It will also be closed on New Year's Day and reopen as usual at 7am on Wednesday, January 2.

It will close an hour earlier than usual at 6pm on Christmas Eve, Boxing Day and New Year's Eve.
