A gas company carrying out works in Seaton has entered into the festive spirit and sponsored Christmas parties for the young and old in Seaton village hall this year.

The parties for toddlers and the over 65s has got the festive season off to a great start in the parish.

Caretaker of Seaton village hall Mike Thompson and his wife Jean Thompson, with help from the committee and volunteers, organised the parties for the sixth consecutive year.

Mr Thompson was happy to put the parties on and liked being able to give back to the community. He said: "We do it to give something back to the community, this year Northern Gas Network sponsored the parties by giving £500 towards them."

At £2 per person, both parties were completely sold out prior to each event, having been advertised in the village newsletter, local shops and on Facebook. 80 children and 80 over 65s attended each party.

The children's party was held first, on December 9. Mr Thompson said: "Feedback from parents was it went really well, Santa turned up, left his sleigh outside and came in. The kids enjoyed it and were happy."

Imagination parties entertained the children and Mr Thompson said they performed excellently again. They were assisted by elves, Michelle Williams and Jean Thompson, the Grinch, Julie Hunter and Santa himself.

The over 65s party was held the week after on December 16.

Guests enjoyed food from the Bakehouse at Maryport and music from a four-piece band.

Funds that have been collected for the car park have not been affected at all by holding the parties.

Mr Thompson said that they are waiting for better weather and then will begin work on the car park. This will possibly be in April next year.

Mr and Mrs Thompson intend to hold the events again next year and say they couldn't do it without the volunteers. They would like to thank Michelle, Shaun, Karen, Gill Brinicombe and the committee for their help.
