Derwent Rotary Club, Fareshare and Groundworks are collaborating on another food pantry.

Workington British Legion will hold the food pantry on Friday December 21 with a view to helping those less fortunate through the Christmas period.

Foodbanks limit the amount available per person by exchanging food for tokens whereas food pantries have no limit on the food available. Organiser and rotary club member Anthony McGuckin said: "I'm very proud of the rotary club for doing it."

Food is supplied by Fareshare, who offer food that would otherwise have gone to waste with the slogan, "It's better in your stomach than it is in the bin." Mr McGuckin said, "Up to 60 percent of the food produced in this country gets plowed back into the land. This time it's not going into landfill."

Groundworks have recently been brought into the fold to offer employment advice to those that are out of work.
Derwent Rotary Club believe that the food pantry is vital in our area, "there's a big need for it."

Derwent Rotary's food pantry will be open from eleven "until the food is gone" said Anthony, "and recently its been going very quickly." The aim of the December food pantry is to make sure disadvantaged people "will have food on the table" for Christmas.
