Christmas has came early for a West Cumbrian homeless hostel

David Nixon, quality manager of Wigton-based Sealy Beds, had been on a visit to Calderwood House in Egremont and noticed that the head boards in the bedrooms were in desperate need of replacing.

Rachel Holliday, founder of Calderwood House, has met Mr Nixon on a leadership course.

"Part of the course meant we had to shadow each other at work. When David came to see our building he noticed our headboards really needed replaced. He told me they had a new Site and Operations Director, Jeff Booth, who he was certain would want to assist with anything we could."

David was right as the very next day his team turned up with 10 brand new head boards. The residents were delighted. They were all different colours and so each resident chose their favorite."

One of the residents, Amy, said: "Christmas is a difficult time for me this year. Nobody ever thinks they will need to spend Christmas in a homeless hostel. What Sealy’s team have done is show people really do care and I want to thank them all for coming here all the way from Aspatria so close to Christmas. It’s really cheered our rooms and all the residents up!”

Mr Nixon added: "At Christmas most of us are so busy getting ourselves organised, it’s easy to forget that there are so many people out there with real and relevant needs. I told Jeff about the homeless hostel and the work it is doing, and straight away he agreed we should help in any way we could."
