A WALKER on a solo expedition was found by mountain rescuers safely in a tent following fears for her safety.

Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team was called just before midnight on Thursday by Cumbria Police after an experienced walker failed to contact her worried husband by 4pm.

She had left a route card which revealed she planned to walk from Coniston over various summits to her proposed camp site at the northern end of Seathwaite Tarn.

As she was a lone female and location unknown, it was decided to send a small party to search the area around Seathwaite Tarn, rather than a full team call out.

Four team members drove in a team Landrover to the tarn and conducted a search of the north bank.

She was located safe and well in her tent around 1.30am.

The battery had failed on her phone and although she had a battery booster with her, she intended to use this in the morning to charge the phone. A team spokesman reminded walkers full winter kit is now needed when venturing into the fells.
