Fundraisers for Danica's Dream Fund are set to take-on The Great North Run this year to raise money.

And there are also plans in the pipeline for a charity wing walk.

John Maxwell from Egremont is the chairman of Danica's Dream Fund, which he runs in memory of his daughter who tragically passed away aged 15 in 2010. Danica's final wish was to help other people who are battling cancer.

John continues the fight against cancer to this day. And he revealed that he made another promise to his daughter before she passed away: "I promised Danica I would do the wing walk. "I told her 'I'll do that for you.'"

However, the first order of business is to make sure he is in peak condition for The Great North Run. John has recruited "Marathon Man" Gary McKee for help. Mr McKee from Cleator Moor completed 100 marathons in 100 days in 2017, generating in excess of £100,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

John believes the training for the sponsored run goes hand-in-hand with the planned charity airplane stunt, which he hopes to organise later in the year. Participants of the wing walk must be under a certain weight.

As well as training from Gary McKee, Shameem Arnold from Moky Fit, who runs classes throughout West Cumbria, has invited John to participate in her classes for free. Shameem Arnold created Moky, a form of exercise which involves dance moves set to music. The money that would have been paid in admissions will be donated to Danica's Dream Fund. John said: "This will give us a little boost."

John and his son Devon Maxwell will take-on The Great North Run on September 8. To donate to Danica's Dream Fund, visit: https://www.everyclick.com/danicasdreamfund/info
