DEMOLITION of a landmark building in West Cumbria has started.

The old Trinity Methodist Church, on South William Street in Workington, is currently being demolished to make way for 22 supported-living flats.

Plans by NIS Developments Ltd, which were approved in 2017 by Allerdale council's planning department, include retaining the facade of the building.

The church, which was not a listed building, dates from the 1890s. It was sold in 2016 to Woodrow Construction after being on the market for many years.

In 2013 publican Paul Scott submitted ambitious plans to convert the church into a theatre to Allerdale council, but the plans fell through.
