Workington Town boss Leon Pryce could be set to run the rule over some Seaton amateurs in this weekend’s pre-season clash with Huddersfield Giants.

Town take on the Super League outfit at Derwent Park on Sunday (3pm KO) and Pryce is keen to get a good look at all of his options as the new League One season looms.

With last weekend’s 24-6 Ike Southward Memorial Trophy win over neighbours Whitehaven already under their belt, Town are looking to keep building momentum.

“A few young lads from Seaton might get a chance after they have been training with us,” said Pryce, who is also keen to give more game time to new signing Andy Litherland.

“I will probably make some changes with some more guys getting a run out.

“I would like everybody to get some game time.”

Pryce is not yet sure of the team the Giants will put out but he suspects it will be a similar side to the one they took on last year, predominantly made up of their talented under-19s with a smattering of first teamers.

The Town boss says there will be unlimited substitutions to allow both sides to rotate players.

But he is urging fans to get behind them and keep propelling the gate numbers upwards as they hope for big things this season.

Sunday’s gate against big rivals Whitehaven was into four figures and that is something the club would love to see on a regular basis as they aim for promotion into the Championship at the earliest opportunity.

Pryce added: “We want to keep on trying to build numbers. We will try and focus on making Derwent Park into a fortress and hopefully the fans will begin coming back down.

“We really want to get a big crowd down each week and then we can show them some big performances.”

Pryce said the key to the next few weeks was simply to get fitness levels high enough for the start of the league season next month.

“We are still in pre-season so we are just trying to get the fitness levels us,” explained Pryce.

“I know we have got games but our main priority has to be to keep training hard and to up our fitness as much as possible.

“We need to do the hard work now so we don’t have as much to do during the season. We just need to get our base fitness level as high as possible.”

You can get £2 reductions on your tickets for this weekend’s game if you buy them in advance from the club shop.

This offer will not be available on matchday and will end at 2.30pm on Saturday.
