Lee Andrews has called upon Workington Reds fans to be their extra player for the rest of the season – and support them in their relegation dogfight.

The Reds manager said he understood there was some negativity after the turmoil over new year but he appealed to fans to put that behind them and come down in numbers, starting tomorrow when they welcome Bamber Bridge to Borough Park, ko 3pm.

Andrews says he has every confidence that his side can pull out of relegation danger and even finish in a mid-table position - but he needs the supporters to play a part.

“The fans need to know how important they are going to be,” said Andrews. “We need to have them onside and positive.

“There are going to be ups and downs from now to the end of the season but the fans’ backing will be a massive help.

“We need them to be as vocal as they can and also to get down and support us in numbers.

“No-one can fault the lads for their effort. We know we have been short so far this season but we have more than enough confidence to know that we can get out of this.

“I know with everything that happened over the new year there has been some negativity.

“But now we all need to pull together and we need everyone to support us in the dogfight we are in.”

Andrews is hopeful that a couple of new players will be joining the club within the next week, which will give the squad another boost.

And he has targeted results in the next four games to try and pull out of danger. Reds currently sit just off the foot of the table, 10 points from safety but they do have games in hand.

“It is still positive we are bringing lads in to build some momentum,” said Andrews. “We have targeted the next four games as ones that we believe we can definitely win.

“It is really important that we stay in this league, especially with all that is happening, like the new stadium. We can’t afford to drop down.”
