Air cadets from across Cumbria will parade through Workington on Sunday.

Cadets from across the county parade annual to mark the anniversary of the formation of the Air Training Corps.

This year's event will take place in the West Cumbrian town as it is 2199 (Workington) Squadron's 70th anniversary.

Cadets and leaders from the squadron will be joined by representatives of the Headquarters Cumbria and Lancashire Wing, 128 (Barrow) Squadron, 1030 (Whitehaven) Squadron, 1127 (Kendal) Squadron, 1247 (Penrith) Squadron, 1264 (Windermere) Squadron, 1862 (City of Carlisle) Squadron, 2192 (Appleby in Westmorland) Squadron and 2223 (Ulverston) Squadron.

The units will gather on Pow Street at 12.15pm before marching down Finkle Street, South William Street and Falcon Place to St Michael's Church.

There there will be a 30-minute church service, beginning at 12.40pm.

Around 150 people are expected to take part in the parade

Workington Town Band, Mayor of Workington Barbara Cannon and the Deputy Lord Lieutenant are due to attend.

The roads on the route will be closed between 12.15pm and 12.40pm.

The parade is held each year on the closes Sunday to February 5, the date on which, in 1941, the Air Training Corps was formed by King George VI.

Drew Cranmer of the local group said: "It is a great honour for 2199 (Workington) Squadron to host the parade and to share the event with cadets from Appleby, Barrow, Carlisle, Kendal, Penrith, Ulverston, Whitehaven and Windermere.

"Workington Squadron has grown over the last two years gaining many new and enthusiastic members.

"We hope this year will be one to celebrate and hosting the ATC Sunday parade is a great way for us to start the year."
