Another bitterly cold night saw the temperature in Cumbria dip to -9.7C last night.
But that low - recorded overnight at Shap - was a slight improvement on the previous night when the temperature fell to -10.
Carlisle was one of the warmer parts of the county overnight, its lowest temperature being -2.3C.
Other parts of the county did not fare as well, with Newton Rigg near Penrith achieving an overnight low of -5.8C and Warcop -4.5C.
Met Office forecaster Mark Wilson said: "There was snow yesterday across parts of the UK but not Cumbria.
"There'll be a slight improvement at the weekend, with Saturday looking like it's going to be a really nice fine and sunny day.
"There will be clear skies and sunshine, though it will still be very cold.
"But it's a different story on Sunday: we're going to see a band of rain pushing in from the west and as it bumps into colder air we could see snow, but mainly over higher ground."
