A CARLISLE man has been jailed for 70 days after he assaulted a woman in Whitehaven.
It happened on Friday, October 26.
Craig Anthony Little, 33, of Melbourne Road, Carlisle, denied the common assault but was found guilty after a trial. The defendant admitted failing to surrender to Workington Magistrates Court on September 11 last year.
Magistrates sitting at the city's Rickergate court also told the defendant to pay £150 compensation to his victim, saying he had used a weapon on a person providing a public service.
In addition, the defendant admitted stealing food from B&M Bargains in English Street, Carlisle, on November 19; and damaging a telephone belonging to the University of Cumbria on December 12.
For these latter offences, the defendant was given a 12 month conditional discharge.
