A HEROIN addict stole steaks from Mark & Spencer to fund his drug habit.
Declan Tyson, 28, whose address was given as c/o Clifton Lodge, Great Clifton, admitted stealing steak worth £144 from the Workington store on January 17.
He also admitted attempting to steal meat products worth £72 from the same shop on January 20.
The court heard he took the meat with the intention of selling it for his heroin addiction.
Tyson, who was representing himself, said: "I have been in hospital for the last two weeks. The consultant said if I carry on, I'm not even going to live another 12 months.
"I'm clean at the moment and trying to find accommodation.
"I'm doing everything I can to keep out of that lifestyle. This time I'm clean and I'm staying clean.
"I can't go back to my parents because they don't agree with my past."
Tyson was ordered to pay a £30 fine, £85 costs and £85 victim surcharge.
He must also complete a 25-day rehabilitation order.
Tyson said: "I'm just looking for another chance and this is it. I regretted it and I'm just trying to move forward."
