Workington's Royal British Legion Women's section is on the look out for new recruits.

The group formed around 18 months ago, has 12 members and has already raised £1,000 by holding two fundraising events.

One of the activities was a ball, held in November, which raised £600 for the benevolent and poppy funds and an afternoon tea with entertainment raised £400. Local businesses helped out with raffle prizes.

The aim of the group is to help and support ex-military personnel and their families and people in need.

Their current appeal is for veterans in Millom and they are collecting duvets, sleeping bags and warm clothing and dog food for the veterans' dogs.

New members are very welcome. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday March 12, at 7pm in Workington's Royal British Legion.

If people would like to give duvets, sleeping bags, warm clothing or dog food, these should be taken to the Workington Royal British Legion.
