Flimby school children enjoyed a train journey to Millom recently as part of their bid to keep their village railway station clean.
Cumbria community rail partnership officer Warren Birch said Year One children were treated to the train ride and a visit to the Millom Discovery Centre.
He said this was a first trip to the area for many of the children and the first train ride for some.
Schools Coordinator Sarah Cameron talked about the history of rail, managing to adapt the content to suit this younger age group.
“Twenty excited children spent the best part of two hours observing the model railway located in the Rail Room, visiting heritage exhibits in the station street and even found time to draw pictures of their journey and dress up.”
Flimby School has adopted the village’s station and is working with Northern Rail and Network Rail to keep it tidy.
