Part of a main road in West Cumbria is set to close for two weeks while roadworks are carried out.

Cumbria County Council is due to resurface the A597 between the A595 at Toll Bar, Distington and Little Croft, High Harrington.

The work is set to begin on Monday, March 11.

The first phase of the work will take place between the A595 and the Galloping Horse pub. It is expected to take four days but is dependent on the weather.

This phase will include work outside Distington Ambulance Station but a council spokesman said workmen would ensure ambulances could get out at any time.

Work will also take place outside Lakes College and the council plans to maintain access to the college from the A595.

The second phase, from the Galloping Horse to Little Croft is expected to take six days and is also weather dependant.

A council spokesman said Scaw Road at High Harrington would be closed during the phase two work.

Pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be escorted through the works.
