Four men have appeared in court accused of violent disorder on a train following a Good Friday rugby league derby match.

Richard Myers, aged 44, Daniel Lloyd, 26, Scott McMaster, 31, and 25-year-old Shaun Wilson each face one charge.

This alleges violent disorder on March 30 last year, and that they "being three or more persons present together and present with others unknown, used or threatened unlawful violence towards another, and the conduct taken together was such as would cause a person of reasonable firmness present at the scene to fear for his personal safety".

All four men appeared in the dock together at Carlisle Crown Court today. Each pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Prosecutor Tim Evans spoke of an alleged "incident on a train following a rugby game in the west of the county". This is said to have been Whitehaven's Betfred League 1 bank holiday derby against Workington.

A timetable for the progress of the case was outlined in court during a short hearing in front of Judge Peter Davies.

It is estimated a trial in front of a jury at the crown court will last five to seven days. This is due to start on July 8.

In the meantime, Judge Davies granted bail to Myers, of Gatehead, Great Clifton; and to Lloyd, of Ellen Garth; McMaster, of St Mungo's Park; and Wilson, also of Ellen Garth, all Aspatria.
