SEATON'S junior football club has been recognised for its work with the village's young people.

It is part of the parish council's Community Champion awards, which are handed each year to a villager and a local group.

A spokesman for the council said: "The volunteers who help run Seaton Junior Football Club were recognised for their management of over 200 young people, giving up a lot of their own time to teach the art of football and in operating as a part of a team. It is a huge commitment to take responsibility for such a large number of young people and a longer term benefit to the community, through the life skills which are developed over time, as well as the health benefits.

"Many young people go on to play football in their adult life and although the new David Beckham hasn’t been found, Seaton is well represented in adult teams throughout the area, a result of the many years for which the Club has operated."
