More than 100 intrepid fundraisers took to the roads of West Cumbria on Sunday for the annual Workington to Keswick charity walk.

A total of 114 participants set off from Workington Royal British Legion club for the 42nd annual walk, with 107 completing the 32-mile route to Keswick Rugby Club.

The first finisher was regular participant Howard Seal, who completed the course in four hours and eight minutes.

The first woman to finish was Leanne Jackson in six hours and 52 minutes.

Seven dogs also took part in the event.

Each year, the event supports three main charities, with smaller donations going to groups and organisations that have helped with the event.

This year's causes are the stroke unit at Whitehaven's West Cumberland Hospital, Autism Support Allerdale and Copeland, and Jack's Journey which supports families experiencing childhood cancer.

Alyson Sibbald, one of the organisers who also took part in the event, said: "It went very well. All the feedback has been really positive.

"The weather was perfect. The atmosphere was lovely."

Participants are asked to hand in their sponsorship money by May 1.

The proceeds will be handed out at a presentation night at Workington Cricket Club on Tuesday, June 11 at 7.30pm.
