Emergency services are winding down a search for a missing person off the West Cumbrian coast for the night.

An early morning search was launched today, which police confirmed was for a missing person, with Workington RNLI called out at around 4am.

The all-weather lifeboat, Dorothy May White, and the Inshore Lifeboat were launched and returned around 8am but the search resumed shortly after. The search is now being wound down but is set to resume tomorrow.

Other agencies involved included Maryport Inshore Rescue. Maryport Coastguard Rescue Team,Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team and the coastguard rescue helicopter.
