Two flood alerts have been issued for the Solway coast by the Environment Agency.

The first alert is for the coast from Gretna to Silloth for high tide at 12.15pm today.

It states: "Flooding of low lying roads and farmland is expected. Low lying land, roads and coastal paths in the Rockcliffe and Port Carlisle areas will be affected.

"We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are checking and operating tidal flood defences. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near the coastline and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads which may be flooded."

A second alert has been issued for the coast from Silloth to St Bees, which will be in place from 12.30pm today.

The warning states: "Flooding of low lying roads and farmland is expected. Low lying land, roads and coastal paths in the Maryport area will be affected.

"We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are checking and operating tidal flood defences. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near the coastline and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads which may be flooded."
