An aspiring poet has had his wishes come true after receiving a personally signed letter from his favourite author.
Connor Sim, 8, was 'over the moon' after receiving a response from acclaimed writer Michael Morpurgo last Wednesday.
Celebrated author of titles such as War Horse and Private Peaceful, Morpurgo sent Connor his own personal guidelines to writing a good story.
The reply was written in response to a poetry assignment Connor was set by his Year Three teacher from St George's C of E School, Mrs Stringer.
The poem, entitled 'Coming Home', was purposefully written in the style and structure of Morpurgo with a personal twist.
Connor said: "It was really unexpected when I received the letter and made me really happy.
"The letter inspires me to write more poetry and I enjoy it at the same time.
"This was the first poem I've read of Michael Morpurgo and I loved it.
"It's encouraged me to do more poetry and write more letters to authors who inspire me."
Connor has a special way with words, according to teacher and deputy head, Mrs Stringer.
She said: "I was very impressed by the poem.
"Connor managed to find the pattern and style of Michael Morpurgo and imitate it really well.
"As well as this, his keenness was something I really picked up on.
"This was the first inspired piece of writing he had written."
Mrs Stringer said the class were all thrilled with Connor's letter response.
She said: "The whole class were all so excited and pleased for Connor.
"I can tell how encouraged he is by this one poem.
"Often a child finds one author they really love and this is Morpurgo for Connor."
Mrs Stringer hopes Connor will continue his poetry-writing in the future.
"A letter from Morpurgo helped Connor feel encouraged and recognised.
"Connor has a way with words which I hope he continues to practice in the future."
