CUMBRIA’S stunning landscape was sprinkled with a dusting of snow, turning parts of the county white.
Residents in some parts of the county awoke this morning to patches of snow, creating beautiful scenery in higher and rural areas.
In particular, the area around Alston was hit with inches of snow.
The Met Office had issued a yellow 'severe' weather warning for an area of northern England and southern Scotland, while flurries were also seen down into the Midlands.
Temperatures dipped below freezing in many areas overnight and remained in single figures for most of the day.
Although the snow showed off the county's scenery in all its stunning glory, it also caused problems for people trying to get around.
Motorists reported snow settling both on the carriageway and on roadsides of major roads including the A66 between Penrith and Appleby and on the M6 around Shap.
Other affected roads included the A686 Hartside Pass, the A689 at Lanehead, the A6 at Shap, Keswick on the A591 and Kirkstone Pass.
The weather is expected to be mixed tomorrow, with temperatures potentially moving into double figures.
Most of the day is expected to be cloudy but some rain and sun could make an appearance in Cumbria, according to Met Office forecasters.
