A WEST Cumbrian charity held a special tea party to thank generous donors who funded equipment for people with disabilities.

West House held the event at the care home it runs in Distington to say thank you to people and businesses for helping them purchase a new ceiling tracking hoist.

The specialist equipment allows easier movement for three men the charity supports.

Emma Robinson, fundraising manager at West House, said: "Specialist equipment for people with disabilities is very expensive so we’re really grateful for any donations, large or small, that we can put towards essential equipment like this.

"The hoist has made a huge difference already to the lives of the gentlemen we support, and staff all agree it’s been worth every penny. We’re so lucky to have such a generous community that is willing to help out others who are less fortunate than themselves."

The hoist was paid for by donations from local businesses including Sealy and Caterite, the Sellafield Charity Snowball, the Fairfield Wind Farm Community Fund, community groups including the John Dalton Masonic Lodge in Cockermouth and Trinity Wesley Guild in Workington.

The home is now raising money for sensory equipment and hopes to hold a fun day in Distington in the summer.
