PEOPLE are being encouraged to check online calendars to find out their new bin collection dates.

Allerdale council is promoting its online calendar after launching a new waste recycling scheme.

More than 38,000 new bins and 5,000 boxes have been delivered to properties all over the district as the council makes changes to the way it collects general waste and recycling.

This means some households have seen their bin collection day change.

Though printed calendars have been sent to residents, Allerdale council says one of the easiest ways to check when waste will be collected is via its website .

Charles Holmes, Allerdale council’s head of community services, said: “We have had several hundred enquiries from people about their new bin collections and we are doing everything we can to get back to them as soon as possible. Thankfully the mistakes are limited but we are sorry if we’ve missed you for any reason.

“One of the most frequent queries we are receiving is about the new collection days. That’s why we are highlighting that our online calendar is available at the click of a button. We will, of course, post a printed copy out to those who don’t have internet access – just contact our customer services team if you need one.

“We’re pretty confident that we will have every address covered during April but if anyone does think they have been forgotten – if, for example, they live on a populated street and all their neighbours have blue-topped bins but they don’t – then please do not hesitate to get in touch with the customer services officers.”

If residents do find themselves without the new bin, they are asked to use the old purple bags until this is resolved.

If properties haven’t received a new bin or box residents can report it using use the form on the website: www.allerdale.gov.uk/newbins.
