Whether you’re a regular bowler, looking to start playing again or a complete newcomer, this weekend you have the chance to attend an open day and see what the sport is all about.

Wigton Bowling Club, in West Road, is hosting its open day on Sunday which will mark the start of a busy season.

Jumbles sessions, where people play others randomly, are open to everyone - with people asked to turn up from 1pm. People can put their names down and pay 50p to play and the winning team will win the money.

There will also be a target game, with the person scoring nearest to the target winning a bottle of alcohol.

After a buffet, men’s president Barrie Coats and ladies president Sarah Nugent will give a speech which will officially mark the start of the season.

Mr Coats will be taking the role of president for the second year running and is feeling good about it.

He, said: “There’s six touring teams this year so it will be full on.

“It’s good to meet the bowlers from other counties, its a social game.”

As well as the open day on Sunday, ladies president Sarah Nugent is hosting a pizza and pamper night tonight from 6pm to 10pm to raise money for the defibrillator fund.
