FIRE chiefs have warned people about the risk of not closely supervising controlled burns after a blaze wrecked a large wooden shed in a village near Carlisle.

Crews from the city's east and west stations were called out to Cargo, north west of Carlisle, at around 2pm today.

A building measuring five metres by eight metres was destroyed in the fire.

The two crews spent around an hour tackling the blaze, on the outskirts of the village.

"As a fire service, we'd advise people never to leave fires unattended," said a Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service spokesman.

He added that everything which was inside the shed was destroyed.

In the west of the county, fire crews were called out to tackle a fire on waste-ground near Derwent Park Stadium in Workington during the Workington Reds match today at around 4.30pm.
