The man at the centre of an attempted murder probe, remains in hospital

Police have described his condition as stable.

Robert Pattinson, who is in his twenties, sustained a serious facial injury caused by a knife.

The alleged incident happened in Wigton on Friday night.

Police were called to an incident outside the outside the Throstles Nest pub, in King Street, at 10.20pm.

A local woman in her forties also sustained a serious head injury.

She has since has been discharged from hospital.

A man has been charged in connection with the incident.

Scott Thomas Topping appeared Carlisle’s magistrates' court on Monday.

The 39-year-old, of Mulligans Court, Wigton, is charged with four offences, including attempted murder.

He has not yet entered any pleas.

Police are appealing for anyone who was in the Throstles Nest or who may have witnessed the incident to contact them on 101, quoting log number 265 of April 12.
