A MUM at home with her young daughter was woken at 2am by a woman banging on her door and yelling: “Get out of your house – I’m going to slit your throat.”

The confrontation ended when the woman making the threat, 22-year-old Emily Blaylock, smashed her victim’s front window.

At the city’s Rickergate Magistrates’ Court, Blaylock admitted causing criminal damage and using threatening behaviour.

Adrian Hollamby, prosecuting, said there was obviously ill-feeling between the two women.

On the day of the offences - November 30 last year - victim Katie Peel was at home asleep when she was woken at 2am by her daughter, who was upset and screaming.

‘She said there was somebody shouting and trying to get in," Mr Hollamby told the court.

“Miss Peel thought [the child] was having a nightmare and told her to go to sleep, but then she heard banging on the door, and recognised the voice outside.”

It was at this point that the defendant threatened to slit Miss Peel’s throat.

Peering out of her window, the victim saw three people standing in her front garden, all of them clearly drunk.

She told the defendant to go away, saying that her behaviour was scaring her child.

The defendant made some reference to an alleged threat to her cousin.

But the victim told her: “I’ve done nothing wrong; I’m gong to ring the police."

The defendant again repeated her threat, saying: "I'll make sure I slit your throat when I get out.”

At this point, said Mr Hollamby, a neighbour intervened, telling Blaylock that there was no need to behave that way.

The victim said she would make sure she "got the window" and this was when one of Miss Peel's house windows was smashed.

Sean Harkin, for the defendant, said the offence were the result of his client's impulsive action and her having had too much to drink.

She now accepted she had been unwise to go to the victim’s home in an attempt to resolve their grievances.

“There's a history between them but that does not excuse her actions," said Mr Harkin.

“But it does explain why she was there. When she got there, things got out of hand and both women shouted things at each other.

"She apologises for that.”

Already the mother of a nine-month-old baby, Blaylock is currently six months pregnant, added the lawyer.

Magistrates imposed a six-month 7pm to 7am curfew as part of a 12 month community order.

She must also complete 25 rehabilitation days with the Probation Service.

Magistrates also ordered that Blaylock to pay compensation to cover the £171 cost of the window she broke, along with £85 prosecution costs and an £85 victim surcharge.
