A TOWN bank branch will soon reduce its hours to three-days-a-week.

TSB has decided to reduce the opening hours of its branch in Wigton.

The town could once again be facing another blow to local banking, just one month after Barclays announced the Wigton branch was to close.

Wigton has seen many of its banks close over the past few years with the HSBC and NatWest also closing.

TSB are currently in the process of writing to customers to inform them that as of the end of July the branch will reduce its hours to three-days-a-week.

A TSB spokesperson, said: "Our customers use banking services in different ways and that is why we try to adapt our offer to deliver them the best possible service however they choose to bank. This means investment in both branches and digital channels.

"With fewer people using our Wigton branch, we are reducing the number of hours it is open. From the end of July, it will be open a Monday, Thursday and a Friday."

The bank has found that over 70 per cent of customers at the Wigton branch regularly either use other TSB branches, digital or telephone banking to access TSB services.

Customer usage of physical branches is continuing to fall and a footfall at the Wigton branch has fallen by seven per cent in the last year alone.

Instead of closing the branch, TSB want to keep it open, but to do this they need to reduce the opening hours so that it is open when the branch is used the most.

A spokesperson, added: "If a customer needs to access a TSB branch during a time it is closed, the nearest TSB branch is in Maryport, which is open five days a week.

"Our customers also have access to our digital and telephone banking services and can also complete many personal banking tasks at the local Post Office in the town.

"Our TSB partners will be working with our customers to support them as we make this change. There will be no job losses as a result of this change."
