A man in his thirties has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a "serious domestic assault" in Carlisle.

Police were called to an address in Scotby Close, off Eastern Way, this morning at 2.45am.

A police spokesperson said: "Police were called at 2.45am this morning after a woman suffered injuries to her arms and hands.

"The injured woman was taken to hospital but her injuries are not believed to be life-altering or life-threatening."

The man was then arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is currently in police custody.

CSI teams are currently sweeping the scene for evidence, with the house in question tucked away inside a cul-de-sac in the middle of the street.
