A BRAND new sports facility has been officially opened.
Silloth on Solway Sport’s Association opened its new multi-use games area (MUGA) facility on Saturday at the Old Marshalling Yard in the town.
Colin Baty, secretary of the association, said: “I’m relieved.
“It’s been a lot of hard work and an emotional rollercoaster.”
Mayor of Silloth, Tony Markley, who officially opened the new area, said: “It’s a fantastic achievement. A big thank you goes to Colin and the time he put into getting the funding.
“It’s another good facility for the town.”
Face painting, food and refreshments were on offer in the rugby club and Sneaky Finch, a three-piece Cumbrian rock band, entertained crowds at night.
Mr Baty thanked Anatoliy Petrov, Ian Ward, Stephen Hart, Lindsey Whitham, Zoe Bewley, Sandy Gasgarth and John Cook for all their help in getting the new area ready to open.
