TWELVE visitors from Coniston’s twin town of Solto Collina enjoyed an "action-packed" weekend in the Lake District.

It is the tenth anniversary of the Anglo-Italian twinning and the group was invited over to see how beautiful the area is in the spring.

Unfortunately, it was pouring with rain when the visitors arrived but the next morning there had been an improvement and a walk from Tilberthwaite to Little Langdale was organised.

The visitors snapped photos of bluebells, little black Herdwick lambs and views from the top of Hodge Close Quarry. They were enchanted by the atmosphere in Cathedral Cavern and were entertained by Jen Brierley singing Ave Maria.

On Sunday the group visited Grasmere to learn about the birth of popular tourism in the Lake District and William Wordsworth. They also paid a visit to Rydal Hall and enjoyed afternoon tea.

The Italian guests enjoyed a lamb meal at the village's Herdwicks restaurant on the final night. There was just time before they headed home for a walk to the top of Orrest Head and lunch at Lakeland in Windermere.
