Children from a village school took to the outdoors to lean about rural life - with tractors being the main focus.

Rosley Pre School Busy Bees, along with the reception class from Rosley C of E Primary School, went out into the village last month to learn about tractors, how they work as well as the local environment.

Jennie Cross, pre school leader at Busy Bees, said: “Our teaching and learning comes from following the interests of our children, currently the children are interested in tractors and farm animals.

“This particular idea came from one little boy painting a picture of a tractor and explaining in detail to me, it is a ‘blue, New Holland tractor’”

Miss Cross organised for the children to go out and see one of the blue, New Holland tractors and lean about how they work.

“Up close the children were amazed to see how big the tractor is, taller than all the adults,” added Miss Cross.

The children were shown inside the engine compartment and heard how the tractor is maintained to keep it working.

As they walked around the tractor they learned the technical words for various parts of the tractor and the particular job it does.

Joanne Bamber, reception teacher at Rosley C of E Primary School, said: “The children really enjoyed it. They couldn’t believe how big it was.

“A lot come from the farming community so really enjoyed it. It was lovely to see them so excited and asking lots of questions.”

Miss Cross added: “It was a great opportunity for the children from school to join us, they’re such good role models for our little ones.

“We are very lucky that the great partnership we have with our parents enhances the children’s learning and development through the knowledge and skills they are willing to share.”

Rosley Pre School Busy Bees are planning to bring lambs into the school for children to learning about caring for animals.
