FRIENDS and fellow writers gathered at St Mary's Church, Kirkby Lonsdale, for the posthumous launch of poetry composed by Christine Cochrane.

The former Casterton School teacher died in March before seeing her book, titled Room, published.

Her poems contrast the big skies and beaches of Scotland's east coast, her childhood home, with the confined spaces of hospital rooms and scanners. It can be ordered online from the publishers at www.lumphananpress.co.uk/bookshop

Room was launched at St Mary's with local poetry group Write on the Farm, and the event featured poetry readings, coffee and cakes.

The cover picture of the poetry collection was taken on Scotland's west coast, not the east, as incorrectly captioned by the Gazette on April 18. It depicts a view from the Isle of Coll towards Rum.
